For the Love of Pop Art
I have always been drawn to Pop Art since my first Art History class in college. I think primarily because of the bright colors that pop artists use, but also because their inspiration is from everyday items in their immediate environment, such as consumer goods and mass media imagery like movie stars, cartoons, etc. Pop Art began in the 1950s but gained popularity in the 1960s and was started in Britain, but quickly migrated to New York. Its style is based on simple bold images of everyday items like soup cans painted in bright colors or photos of celebrities, comic strips and animals.
